A Reflection on Gratitude

Writer: Joshua ShaleJoshua Shale

In this Holiday Season it is a good time to have some quiet reflection. I chose to think on Gratitude.

This has not been a great year for so many of us. We have been faced with challenges and difficulties that we could not even imagine this time one year ago. So as we head into the next year, 2021, I am pondering all of the kindness shown to me and to my family this year. I won’t bore you with a drawn-out sob story but The Shale Family went through some rough times this year. But in those times people – many of whom I just barely knew or didn’t know at all – rallied to support us. We were overwhelmed by the kindness of all manners of medical professionals – especially nurses. We received scores of dinners delivered to our door and ready to go over several months. We got offers to help with chores and shopping. We had people come to spend time with us and to keep us occupied and entertained. Nobody had to do any of it but they did.

Even in the toughest times there are things to be grateful for. Especially in the toughest times.

Happy New Year.
